Vineyards

The Rivera-Aparicio family owns some of the most precious and ancient vines which have been preserved for almost 100 years. These oenological treasures possess their own “prefiloxeric” clone, which has been reproduced in the younger vines. This makes the wines of our family to be unique and to express the characteristic features of the clone.

All our vines are located in the most renown and privileged states in Pesquera de Duero, such as, El Olivo, La Rendeja, Valderamiro, and including Erialón, which gives the name to our wine. The high quality expression of this terroir provides the wine with complexity and its own distinctive features. Our vines are spread over 20 hectares, some of the vineyards being over 80 years old and cultivated in the traditional way, perfectly integrated to its natural environment.

Erialon

Erialon

These vines are one of the oldest owned by the Rivera-Aparicio family. It is a small plot consisting of 600 "Tinto Fino" grapevines planted on a very organically poor soil, very hot, with excellent drainage which gives the name to the "terroir". Because of it's great sentimental value, it gives the name to our wine Erial.

The Olivo

The Olivo

This vinyard was planted during the first years of the 1930s. It has been well known for the quality of it's fruit, in part because of it's excellent "terroir" beneath and it's good orientation, and also in part because of it is the host of the famous prefiloxeric clone of the Rivera-Aparicio family which has been reproduced in the younger vineyards. The grapes of this clone have special characteristics that give to Erial it's unique high quality.

La Rendeja

La Rendeja

This vineyard is so old that nobody remember when it was planted... not even the most elderly of Pesquera. It is a small vineyard consiste of 600 grapevines located in one of the oldest traditional vineyards of Pesquera de Duero.

Valdemoral

Valdemoral

This vineyard is one of the model vineyards of the Rivera-Aparicio family because it is the first that utilized a "cordon royat" styling with low supporting wire and a high canopy. It consists of 1.1 hectare and it was grafted on site with genetic material from vines originating from El Olivo.

Vallarín

Vallarín

This vineyard was replanted in 1992 and grafted on site with genetic material from vines from El Olivo. It has a surface area of 0.50 hectare. It is situated on a gradual slope facing southwest. It is one of Bodega Epifanio Rivera's best places for grapes to ripen.

El Cañal

El Cañal

This vineyard consists of an area of 3 hectare with a north-south orientation. It is the lowest altitude vineyard owned by Bodega Epifanio Rivera due to the fact that it is located at the same level as the town of Pesquera de Duero. Its soil consisting of gravel and sand make it specially suited for the cultivation of the vines. It was grafted on site with genetic material from Erialon and El Olivo.

Trellanillo

Trellanillo

This area is one of the most important for Bodega Epifanio Rivera. It consists of three vineyards, two of which are on level ground and a third one a southeast slope. They were grafted with genetic material from the vineyards of El Olivo and Erialon, 100% "tinto del pais (Tempranillo from Rivera del Duero)" grapes. The composition of the "terroir" is very diverse, alternating between sand with limestone and clay. The three parcels combined encompass an area of seven hectare. The altitue of the land increases gradually until it reaches 900 meters above sea level at its highest point.
